Lizzie Worden

Dr. Elizabeth Anderson Worden is a comparative and international education scholar and an Associate Professor in the School of Education at American University (AU). Dr. Worden has deep expertise in qualitative methods, citizenship, teaching contested histories, social memory, and higher education. She is the author of two books (“National Identity and Education Reform: Contested Classrooms” from 2014 and “Citizenship Education in a Divided Society: Lessons from Curricula and Practice in Northern Ireland” from 2023) and extensive publications about the role of education in creating citizens and fostering belonging during times of social and political transition. She is currently the Director of the International Training and Education Program at AU. She formerly served as a trustee on the AU Board of Trustees and chair of the AU Faculty Senate. Dr. Worden is a past UK Fulbright Scholar and is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Moldova).
